Nokia 5 "maybe, a moto G rival"

NOKIA 5

There’s a very retro feel to MWC 2017 as both Blackberry and Nokia are plotting their comebacks. Just like BB, the Nokia name is now owned by a third-party and it’s looking at making it big again.

As the name suggests, the Nokia 5 sits marginally below the Nokia 6 and above the cheaper Nokia 3; it’s the mid-range product in Nokia’s line-up and it has the potential to be the best.

Major technical specs. are
  • The design is very similar to Nokia 6, and it feels heaps and bounds above its price-tag. It’s constructed from a slab of 6000 series aluminium, that is it's been anodised with magnesium and alloy, and Nokia has been talking up just how rugged and durable it should be.
The back has a slight curve, as does the front, and they combine to make a phone that feels perfectly sized. Thanks to the smaller 5.2-inch display – rather than the 5.5-inch panel on the Nokia 6 – it’s a lot more manageable in one hand.
I do wish that display was 1080p, rather than 720p, and I think if that pushed the price up slightly then I would take the hit. Both Moto and Honor have similarly priced phones with a FHD panel and it’s the one thing that I see holding the Nokia 5 back.

  • The Snapdragon 430 CPU sits under the metal back, and it’s a competent mid-range processor. Again it’s not quite up to the Snapdragon 6-series used in the Moto G, but it should chew through browsing and light gaming with ease.
  • There’s 2GB RAM too, and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded via the microSD card slot.
  • The 3,000 mAh battery should easily give you a day of use, especially when you take into account the lower-res display. It’ll charge via micro-USB, rather than the more forward-thinking USB-C.

I am literally more positive about the processor because of the software used. There’s no heavy skin here, just a clean version of Android 7.1.1. It even ships with the Pixel Launcher and the Google Assistant, two features that are rare to see on anything other than a phone direct from Google.

Nokia is promising swift software updates along with monthly security patches, two things will definitely set it apart from the crowd.
MY OPINION Cheap and cheerful, the Nokia 5 doesn’t impress in every area but it’s a good looking device with clean software and a really nice design.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

It's hard to follow up on the Redmi Note 3, but Xiaomi has managed to deliver a great successor in the Redmi Note 4. The phone now comes with more memory and storage, and the design changes make the device feel upmarket. Battery life has also received a boost thanks to the Snapdragon 625 SoC, and the camera is also better than what we saw last year. In short, this is the phone to beat in the budget segment.
Xiaomi had a fabulous year back in 2k16. The company managed to sell arround 3.6 million units of the same.

However, competition in the budget segment has intensified, with Lenovo launching a bevy of models in the country last year. The Moto G4 series continues to sell in huge numbers, and the Z2 Plus picked up a discount recently, bringing the cost of the phone down to 14,999. For that amount, you get a handset powered by the Snapdragon 820.

Let's have a look on major technical specifications :

  • Design : The phone is 8.4 mm thick and is fully made by aluminum metal with a 2.5D body structure that looks better and holds perfect in hands. Metallic case is bit heavier(175gm) that the predecessor (Note 3).
  • Display : A perfect sized 5.5 inch 1080p IPS LCD pannel with 441ppi pixel density pushes the display to another level.
  • Platform : Xiaomi desingns its personal UI system known as MIUI and is using its newer version MIUI 8 which is based on Android Marshmallow. The OS is highly efficient and is packed with lot of useful features ever needed but I must say, its a bit heavy on memory.
  • Memory : The Chinese brand launched 3 different versions of  same phone although they are not similar in storage aspect. The 3 variants of different combinations of RAM and inbuilt storage are (2GB,32GB), (3GB,32GB) and (4GB,64GB).Well it doesn't supports any memory chip just like all Mi devices.
  • Communication : All the basic connections are supported including GPS, WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi,  Micro USB 2.0.
  • Features : Fingerprint sensor in the back.
  • Battery :  Well Xiaomi beats competitors here with a stunning 4100mAh battery with fast charging support which was missing in Note 3.

"Well....world knows that the manufacturers always run out of stock."

The Nokia 6

THE NOKIA 6

When Nokia officially announced their upcomming phone, there were mixed feelings about the smartphone. The decisions that manufacturers take to incorporate hardware inside the device is also based on the kind of pricing it will feature. Most phone makers also undertake a very sub-standard assembly process to save costs.

As mobile world is already occupied by the "monopolized" market of Apple, Samsung and Mi, beloved nokia must had to do something out of the expectations to regain its legendary name back in Asian market.

Let's have a look on major technical specifications :

  • Design : Curved body weighing 169gm sits tight in your hand.6.06mm thick phone feels like you are holding a chocobar. Well there are several brands like Gionee but we'll talk about this later.
  • Display : The perfectly sized 5.5 inches IPS display is protected by corning girilla glass3. Obviously, it supports multitouch feature so that you can play games and other stuff.
  • Platform : As the brand made its followers wait for such long time, there's no sense of a launching a device with an old opperating system which half of the world is already using so its most obvious to give Android OS, v7.0 (Nougat) platform and claims to be updated on time.
  • Memory : Memory card support upto 256GB but it consumes 1 sim card slot. Inbuilt memory is 64GB with 4GB RAM.
  • Sound : Active noise cancellation with Dolby Atmos sound enhancement.
  • Communication : All the basic connections are supported including GPS, WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi,  Micro USB 2.0.
  • Features : Finger print scanner (front mounted), proximity sensor, geo sensor, flash battery charging.
  • Battery : In my opinion, a 3000mAh battery is not sufficient for this combination of RAM-Display-Processor.
India is still waiting for this phone to launched in international market.
